NSSR Liberal Studies Department Looking for Research Assistant

Are you interested in civic engagement? Want to be a part of a project that deals with a wide range of issues faced by post-9/11 US service-members and veterans? Then NSSR in Liberal Studies Department is looking for a Volunteer Research Assistant like you!  Read below for information on how you can apply!

HAVE SOME EXTRA TIME DURING WINTER BREAK? WANT TO HELP A
VETERAN-LED ORGANIZATION AND LEARN ABOUT ADVOCACY RESEARCH?

Who we are:

We are a volunteer-driven grassroots effort of veterans, allies, and
researchers working on a project highlighting the effects of multiple deployments on Iraq
and Afghanistan-era veterans through first-person testimonies with active-duty soldiers
taken during our two year organizing efforts at a major U.S. military base. We are in the
process of publishing a report of testimonies and original research for inclusion in an
international human rights hearing on the health effects of the Iraq War, and as a tool to
bolster our organizing efforts.

What we are looking for:

Desired qualifications:

Proficient writing skills, ability to maintain and follow privacy
procedures, access to a personal computer and internet, interest in supporting a
grassroots organization and learning about advocacy-based research.

Commitment: Willing to dedicate 10-15 hours/week for 4-6 weeks in December 2013
and/or January 2014. The work will mostly consist of editing and coding anonymized
testimonies, with the possibility of further topical research and/or further involvement
after January, based on interest. Research assistants will be oriented and continue to
meet with members of the Operation Recovery research team (in person if in the Bay
area or New York City, or via Skype if remotely).

This is a great opportunity for students in the social sciences interested in veteran
issues, healthcare rights, participatory-research methods, and advocacy-based
research!

To apply: Send a CV/resume and short writing sample to Adele Carpenter:
